Mariah's Research & Pedagogy

My research, academic pedagogy, and career centers around 4 focus areas and 3 broader scopes of interests.​

  1. Placemaking, Stewardship, Accessibility, & Preservation Practices for equity & accessibility for Black and Indigenous Women and Girls in STEAM spaces. 

  2. Video games and game-based learning as efficient and culturally appropriate vehicles of STEAM learning for culturally diverse communities in rural and island communities.

  3. Equity and accessibility in STEAM-based learning for Black & Indigenous Women and Girls.

  4.  Industry and education policy, safety, and political economy within video games and esports.

  5. Democratic and socially just alternatives to dominant education models within STEAM.
